The R44, designed during the 1980s by Frank Robinson and his staff of engineers, first took to the skies in 1990. It was awarded certification in 1992, with the first deliveries taking place shortly thereafter. The R44 Astro was the original production model, but was later superseded by the hydraulically-assisted R44 "Raven I".
The R44 is a single-engined helicopter with a semi-rigid two-bladed main rotor and a two-bladed tail rotor and a skid landing gear. The Raven I's distinctive aerodynamic design allows a high cruise speed up to 130 mph and an average fuel consumption of only 12 to 16 gallons per hour. The dependable Lycoming O-540 engine is derated from 260 to 225 HP (225 HP for take-off) for long life and reliability.
The cabin offers comfortable "two plus two" seating with removable dual controls and no bulkhead or post between the front and rear seats, assuring exceptional visibility and panoramic views for the pilot and up to three passengers. Helicentre Aviation is delighted to offer the R44 for training, self-fly-hire or charter. Please call us on 02476 511 615 for further information.
